Antique 1910's French Sustenteur also know as an "American cooker". These were first used from the 1500's and then became popular again from the mid 1800's where they were widely used in French hospitals as the best and safest way to cook food. This model was produced in Paris and is stamped "A la cloche, rue St Honore", this model apparently won gold medal at the Paris hygiene exhibition in 1888. Great piece of medical history and very decorative item.
